Darker nights and colder temperatures often stir up the winter blues. Fortunately, the holidays are just around the corner to put you in a better mood. Maybe it’s the glowing decorations, the comfort food or the soothing music that gets you into the holiday spirit. Whatever you prefer, there’s an activity this season for you!
Ottawa Farmers Christmas Market / Christmas Craft Sale
If holiday shopping gets you in the spirit, you’ll be happy to learn there are two big market events to pick up all your stocking stuffers and baked goods. Every Saturday and Sunday from November 30th to December 22nd, the Ottawa Farmers Christmas Market will take over the Aberdeen Pavilion. Find a range of crafts and food and farm stalls to stock up for all your holiday cooking and baking right here, with over 100 local vendors to browse. Then drop by the Ottawa Christmas Craft show to buy any handmade goods, apparel, or unique gifts that you have on your list. Over 200 vendors will be available from December 5th to 15th at the EY Centre.
Magic of Lights
Even when the temperatures dip below 30, you can still get out and enjoy the magic of lights this season. Millions of colourful lights, animated features and Santa’s entourage of characters are showcased over 2 kilometers across the Wesley Clover Parks. This drive-through attraction will let you stay in the warmth of your car while taking in one of the most beautiful lighting displays. This takes place from November 21st to January 4th.
Christmas at Pemberley
Looking to turn up the romance this holiday season? Theatre lovers can enjoy a romantic Christmas comedy this year at the Ottawa Little Theatre from November 27th to December 14th. There are a number of night shows and matinees available to suit your busy holiday schedule.
A Christmas Carol
Christmas is not complete without the music from the Christmas Carol. And this year you can catch it live at the Gladstone Theatre. Recreated performances of Charles Dicken’s classic will take you back in time. Shows roll on December 15th to 23rd.
Christmas with Music and Beyond
The holidays are about more than just gift-giving, it’s also about giving to the less fortunate. Give yourself something to feel good about by attending this music-filled fundraiser. This one night only event at the Dominium-Chalmers United Church will showcase classic Christmas tunes that the whole family will enjoy. Admission prices are also available for families of four and five.
Ottawa Christmas Market
Lansdowne Park is hosting Ottawa’s first-ever European style Christmas Market this year! This not to be missed event will offer live music, light installations, fire pits to keep you warm, holiday treats and drinks to enjoy, local vendors to explore and a tree lighting ceremony.
