What is a Carbon Footprint?
A carbon footprint consists of the amount of greenhouse gases released into the atmosphere as a result of human actions. Reducing your individual carbon footprint will help diminish your contribution to climate change.
How to Reduce Your Carbon Footprint?
1.Give Waste a Second Life
Your trash may be someone else’s treasure. If your waste can be donated, fixed, or recycled, it should not be thrown into the trash can. These efforts will help reduce the amount of waste that ends up in the landfill by giving it a new purpose.
2.Transportation Alternatives
A great portion of our carbon footprint comes from vehicle emissions. The main culprit for most, is the commute to and from work. To reduce the amount of emissions released into the atmosphere we need to consider alternative transportation methods such as driving a more energy efficient vehicle, taking public transit, biking, or even walking to work.
3.Eat Less Meat
Did you know that reducing your consumption of beef will dramatically reduce your carbon footprint? Eating less beef reduces the amount of greenhouse gas emissions, land use, and water intake which goes into raising cattle.
4.Support Clean Energy Sources
Clean energy sources include wind, solar, biomass, geothermal, and hydropower. These sources of renewable energy reduce the amount of greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution that are released into the atmosphere.
At CLV Group, we work together to reduce our carbon footprint as a company. We have implemented multiple initiatives including, but not limited to:
• 95% of all common area lighting has been changed to LED
• Implemented motion sensors in auxiliary rooms to reduce runtime
• All toilets in Ontario have been replaced with 3L flush toilets to reduce water consumption
• In about 50% of our apartments, we have implemented in-suite heating controls to reduce natural gas usage
Let’s continue to work together to improve our planet!
