For some, Labour Day weekend can mean moving into a new apartment. For others, it means a 3-day weekend to be enjoyed with friends and family. For those lucky ones, here are a few suggestions of activities to do in or near Montreal to avoid spending this beautiful weekend on the couch.
Go for a Hike
Labour Day weekend is the best time for escaping the city to immerse yourself in nature. Quebec has so many gorgeous hiking options, you won’t know where to go once you start searching. The Eastern Townships have plenty of beautiful hikes to offer such as Mount Pinacle and Mount Orford. If you feel adventurous and are willing to cross the border, try Mount Pisgah or Mount Lafayette.
Host a Friend Reunion
We all remember this old group of friends we used to love hanging out with but can’t seem to hang out with anymore because life got in the way. Well, the first weekend of September, you don’t have any excuses! Host a dinner party in the form of either a pot-luck, a wine & cheese or, even better, take advantage of that evening to show off your cooking skills!
Visit a City You’ve Never Been to Before
There are so many cities near Montreal that are worth visiting! Take the time to do so and explore all that our beautiful province has to offer. Magog, 1.5 hours away from Montreal is bordered by a lake and a mountain and is simply gorgeous in the fall with its cute shops and restaurants. If you’ve never been to Mont-Tremblant, you should definitely consider the detour this weekend for a picturesque décor.
Go for a Bike Ride
Get on your bike and go for a ride this coming weekend! Try the bike path of the L’Île-de-la-visitation nature Park, bordering the north of the island. You don’t have to exit the city to enjoy your ride, Canal Lachine also offers a long and enjoyable bike path.
Visit a Museum
A visit at the museum is one of the most underrated activities. Whether you go with your family, significant other, friends or alone, going to the museum does not have to be a boring silent visit. The Montreal Science Centre has multiple permanent exhibitions and currently offers two amazing visiting exhibitions: DreamWorks Animation: The Exhibition and Oceans 3D: Our Blue Planet on IMAX.
Takeaway point for the Labour Day weekend: don’t stay in! Get out and do something fun and out of your routine. You’ll see, it’s worth it!
