It’s time to gear up and get ready for Ottawa’s 40th Winterlude celebrations, and there’s no shortage of excitement this year! There’s an impressive line up of activities planned that reflect and incorporate aspects of our nation’s capital and show off our great Canadian culture. Here is a brief overview on some of the major events that are happening during this festive and fun winter celebration in Ottawa.
Snowflake Kingdom
Head over to Gatineau’s Jacques-Cartier Park to zoom across on a mega zip-line, fly down the Blizzard slide, or get lost and found in a giant maze. There’s a flurry of activity worth checking out in this winter paradise.
Crystal Garden
Starting on February 3rd at 7pm, Ottawa’s Confederation Park and Crystal Garden is kicking off with a bang. Renowned Canadian artists will take the stage and energize the crowd, showcasing a variety of home grown Canadian talent. Keep an eye on the Winterlude 2018 schedule as they update and reveal more of the details that will be taking place.
Canada Cup Of Ice Carving
Of course you can’t miss out on one of the best features of Winterlude – the ice carvings! Take a walk through the dazzling Crystal Garden and check out all the action during the 30th Crystal Garden International Ice-Carving Competition. You can vote online and select the best team who you think deserves the victory.
The Rideau Canal
Down along the Rideau Canal Skate Way, there are plenty of classic (and favourite) Winterlude activities to enjoy. Lace up your skates and glide across the frozen canal that runs right through the heart of Ottawa. You can also check out the Winterlude Triathlon and Annual Bed Race. And don’t miss out on the ice dragon boat race – it’s the largest in the world!
Even with the sub-zero temperatures, there’s never a shortage of fun in Ottawa! This year the city is ready yet again to welcome hundreds of thousands of visitors to enjoy this beautiful city and celebrate all that makes Canada so great. Winterlude runs from February 2nd to the 19th. Among these events mentioned, there are so many more to check out, like a massive 100-block ice sculpture that will commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge.
